A piece of sad news is coming from the South which is making the headlines of the news. According to multiple reports, the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) founder has left the world in a mourning state. The actor-politician, DMDK Captain Vijayakanth took his last breath on Thursday, 28th December 2023 in Chennai. At the time of his passing, he was 71 years old. Initially, people thought this news was fake but after watching the official reports of other news websites, a wave of sadness started circulating on social media. The reports state that the passing news of the actor-turned-politician was officially confirmed by officials of Miot Hospital.
It is noted that the founder of DMDK was admitted to the hospital after suffering from pneumonia and over the last few hours, the health of the late actor was continuously drowning and finally, he took his last breath in the early morning. He was on ventilator support. The hospital authority has shared a statement regarding it and states that “Captain Vijayakanth was on ventilatory support following his admission for pneumonia. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, he took his last breath in the early morning on Thursday, 28th December 2023.”
He was suffering from pneumonia for quite a long time. The death of the captain marks the end of an influential chapter in the political history of Tamil Nadu and leaves a void in the diverse political tapestry of the state. His fans have been in deep shock ever since they heard his unfortunate death news. The entire social media is flooded with condolences and people are sending their tributes through their social media accounts. Vijayakanth’s party earlier stated in a release statement that the captain had also tested positive for COVID-19.
However, the party released the statement even before receiving the results for the 2nd round of samples as stated by the hospital sources. He had previously been admitted to the hospital on 18th November 2023 for a feverish illness and after spending a few weeks in the same hospital, he was discharged on 11th December 2023. He has been ill for quite a long time. After his post-discharge, the late actor made his first public appearance to show his participation in the executive and general council meeting of DMDK, on 14th December 2023.
While addressing the meeting, the party announced the wife of Vijayakanth Premalatha Vijayakanth as the new general secretary of DMDK. Now, the entire party and state are mourning the passing of the late actor. People remember him for his contribution to the political world. After M G Ramachandran or MGR, Vijayakanth was the only actor who achieved immense success and built a strong reputation in Tamil politics. After hearing the passing news of the late politician, many influential personalities from the political world have made a tweet regarding it.

Born on 25th August 1952 in Madurai started his influential journey as an actor in 1979. At that time, he was featured in the film titled “Iniikum Illamai”. Since then he had gave many blockbuster films including Chinna Gounder, Senthoora Poove, Captain Prabhakaran, Ramana, Pulan Visaranai and so on. In 2005, he decided to become a politician and established his own party DMDK.
