66th Grammy Awards 2024: Zakir Hussain and Shakti Band Triumph at Grammys

India’s renowned Tabla maestro has created history by grabbing three Grammy Awards. The awardee of Bharat Ratna, Zakir Hussain accepted the awards for his performance for “Pashto”. The 66th Annual Grammy Awards was held at Los Angeles, California, US on Sunday, 4th February 2024. Apart from Zakir Husain, many renowned personalities in the music industry received accolades in the “Celebration of Music Excellence” including Taylor Swift. The award ceremony was hosted by comedian Trevor Noah for the 4th time in a row. At the star-studded, India bagged three wins including the winning of India’s band “Shakti”.

The members of India’s band include Ganesh Rajagopalan (violinist), Zakir Hussain (tabla), John McLaughlin (guitar, guitar synth), V. Selvaganesh (percussionist), and Shankar Mahadevan (vocalist). This band received the award for their work, “The Moment” in the category of “Best Global Music Album Category”. In the further addition to India’s winning in Grammy Awards, Rakesh Chaurasia bagged two awards, one for “Contemporary Instrumental Album”, and “Global Music Performance”. The impressive track record of Hussain now boasts three Grammy wins including the winning of “Contemporary Instrumental Album”. Apart from it, Miley Cyrus bagged her first-ever award for her song “Flowers” in Grammy Awards.

The winning of the fusion band has been shared by The Recording Academy on their official X account. In a post shared by Grammy reads that “Congrats Best Global Music Album Winner- ‘This Moment’ Shakti. #GRAMMYs.” After watching this post, the social media has been flooded with congratulatory messages. One of the posts has been shared by an Indian musical composer, Rickey Kej in which he expressed his happiness over the winning of Indian artists at a global platform. He said that 2024 has started with a piece of great news over winning at the Grammys.

He wrote on X, “Ustad Zakhir Hussain, the living legend, creates history by winning 3 Grammys in one night!!! Rakesh Chaurasia was honored with 2 wins!!.. and I am blessed to witness it.” While congratulating Shakti over their winning at the Grammy Awards, he made another post on X that reads, “SHAKTI wins a GRAMMY! Through this album 4 brilliant Indian musicians won Grammys!!! Just amazing. India is shining in every direction…!”

The album of Shakti’s “This Moment” features 8 songs created by its members. Besides it, Taylor Swift bagged the 2024 Grammy Awards in the category of “Album of the year” for her album “Midnights”. SZA managed to get 9 nominations in The Recording Academy. Besides that, Billie Eilish appeared on the Red Carpet with the Grammy Award for her song “What Was I Made For?”. She reserved this Grammy award in the category of “Song of the year”. Rest of the winners on music’s biggest night are:
