Delhi: Putting an end to the hot and humid weather conditions, heavy rain poured down parts of Delhi NCR on Tuesday morning and brought with it severe waterlogging and traffic disruptions across the region. The Indian Meteorological Department has forecasted the rain to last till Saturday with the exception of a moderate sprinkle on Wednesday and Thursday.

Heavy Rain in Delhi NCR causes discomfort

After experiencing a hot and humid day on Monday, with a maximum temperature of 35.6 degrees Celsius, Heavy Rain in Delhi NCR on Tuesday brought much relief to people but has caused extensive waterlogging in numerous localities of Delhi. The downpour has also caused major traffic congestion in Delhi NCR. The heavy rain is causing several incidents in the city with a notable one being an autorickshaw being partially submerged due to the downpour on Minto Road. Another similar incident happened near the Ashram Bridge, where commuters faced inconvenience due to severe waterlogging led to traffic congestion.

Delhi NCR tackles the Traffic congestion

Delhi Police issued multiple traffic advisories and diversions to help manage the flow of vehicles, in response of the waterclogged roads causing commuters inconvenience. The heavy rainfall affected routes like Rohtak Road, Nigam Bodh Ghat, Chatta Rail Chowk, Mangi Bridge, Mundka, IP Marg, Connaught Place Outer Circle, Minto Road, and ITO Chowk. Delhi police have suggested alternate routes to commuters. Commuters have been advised to avoid areas like Mundka and instead opt for routes via the Outer Ring Road, District Centre Janakpuri, and Najafgarh.

Heavy Rain in Delhi NCR: The cause for this weather condition

IMD has analyzed this heavy rain and concluded the cause. A monsoon trough is said to passing Delhi which is being joined by moisture from the southwesterly winds of the Arabian Sea. Additionally, cold, dry air associated with a localized, weak western disturbance has interacted with warm, moist monsoonal winds, resulting in the intense early morning showers in Delhi.

Delhi NCR weather predictions

The Indian Meteorological Department has warned Delhi and southwest NCR regions, especially Central and East Delhi of moderate to intense rainfall and issued an orange alert for the region. According to IMD, light rain will continue until Saturday, with intermittent moderate spells while also noting that parts of northwest India, including Delhi, might not receive significant rainfall due to an anti-cyclonic formation near Rajasthan. IMD has also issued a yellow alert for other regions in the NCR, including Northwest, Northeast, and Southeast areas.

Delhi weather before and after

Before heavy rainfall hit Delhi on Tuesday, the city was experiencing a particularly hot and humid day on Monday, with temperatures peaking at 35.6 degrees Celsius and humidity levels ranging between 67% and 87%. Following the downpour on Tuesday, Pitampura recorded 57.0 mm of rainfall, and Delhi University 55.5 mm of rainfall. During the early hours, downtown Ridge recorded 72.4 mm of rainfall, while Safdarjung, the city’s primary weather station, recorded 28.7 mm, Lodi Road recorded 25.6 mm, and Ayanagar recorded 2.2 mm, according to data shared by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
