On Sunday, US President Joe Biden announced he wouldn’t accept the nomination as the presidential nominee of the Democratic Party and endorsed Vice-President Kamala Harris as the nominee. This turn of events happened after Biden found himself in a recent catastrophic debate with Donald Trump that raised doubts about his fitness for office.

President Biden took to X, and wrote – “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamal to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”
Kamala Harris endorsed by Biden
Vice President Kamala Harris praised Biden’s “selfless and patriotic act”. She further stated that she was honoured to have his endorsement and that she intends to “earn and win” her party’s nomination.

It’s essential to note that if Biden’s endorsement is accepted by the party, Kamala Harris will become the first Indian-origin woman to contest the US presidential elections.

And while it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,”

The debate was hosted by CNN in Atlanta, with anchors Jake Tapper and Dana Bash serving as moderators. Biden and Trump were asked questions about the economy, abortion, the Middle East, the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, Trump’s recent criminal conviction, and more. While Trump was energetic and attacking with arguments, President Biden was seen struggling with defending his administration over the term.
Trump consistently raised questions on the growing inflation and the state of the American economy, while skillfully dodging questions about his recent criminal conviction. This lack of focus and inability to keep up ignited the questioning and ended up with him giving up the presidential bid.

His performance alarmed the Democratic Party and the viewers. On Sunday Biden announced that he is dropping his presidential re-election campaign after about a month from the debate.
