Modi 3.0: Swearing-In Ceremony Highlights

Modi 3.0 term began with the oath ceremony of Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Damodar Modi on Sunday, 9 June 2024. He has been sworn in as India’s newly elected prime minister for a third term in the presence of prestigious personalities and honourable President Draupadi Murmu at the presidential palace in Delhi. The oath ceremony of the lead figure of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was attended by numerous guests including celebrities from the Entertainment Industry and Business tycoon, Mukesh Ambani. During the sworn-in, the PM said he would “do right to all manner of people without affection or ill-will.”

The celebration of Modi 3.0 witnessed in several parts of the country showcased citizens’ love and affection towards Modi. Several states where BJP holds the seats with a great margin commemorate the swearing-in ceremony. As known, Modi’s BJP-led National Democratic Alliance secured 293 seats in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, however, the aim of the party was to hold all 400 seats and this result was quite unexpected but in the end, Modi succeeded in creating Modi Cabinet 2024.

The General elections of 2024 saw a resurgence of India’s opposition which secured 234 seats in this selection. The winning margin of the BJP is much lower than predicted by exit polls. Speaking of the Modi Oath Ceremony, thousands of guests witnessed the new journey of the third term of Modi at the presidential palace in Delhi. Among these guests were the heads of neighbouring countries including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Nepal, however as expected Pakistan and China leaders did not attend the oath ceremony.

By keeping safety in mind, tight security has been placed in Delhi and it was declared as a no-fly zone. More than 2,500 police officers were deployed around the venue. During the ceremony, Modi said he would uphold the sovereignty and integrity of India and govern with “true faith and allegiance to the constitution.” He added, “I will do right to all manner of people in accordance with the constitution and the law without fear or favour.”

Moreover, during the ceremony, a council of ministers of the new cabinet of Mr. Modi were also sworn in.

73 years old, Modi is only the second Indian leader to win a third consecutive term after  Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of the country.

Besides it, PM Modi today assumed office in his South Block office in Delhi after the swearing-in ceremony, where he led a 72-member Union Council of Ministers into office. The report states the first time it was signed by Modi is related to the farmer’s welfare scheme “PM Kisan Nidhi”. Furthermore, the immediate agenda for the PM includes a Cabinet meeting. It is expected that the new Cabinet will formally request the President of India to summon a session of Parliament. Both houses will be addressed by the President in this session where she outlines the vision and priorities of the government for the new term.

On Sunday, President Murmu administered the oath of office to PM Modi and his cabinet included prominent BP leaders Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, Rajnath Singh, S Jaishankar, and Nitin Gadkari. The Council of Ministers comprises 30 cabinet Ministers, 5 Ministers of State with Independent Charge, and 36 Ministers of State. After the ceremony, PM Modi made a tweet on X which reads, “This team of ministers is a great blend of youth and experience; we will leave no stone unturned in improving people’s lives. I look forward to serving 140 crore Indians and working with the Council of Ministers to take India to new heights of progress.”
