Prepare for 10 Non-Working Days: Bank Holiday Update

Today is the last working day of the bank and in the wake of May 1 people are looking to know “Are banks closed tomorrow”? It is worth noting that, May 1 is observed as “May Day” as well as “Maharashtra Day” and due to that most banks and other public sectors remained closed. But this time, the banks are supposed to stay closed for long days. That means the bank’s customers need to be prepared for at least 10 non-working days. The banks will close in the wake of religious holidays and weekend closures. All national banks will mark 13 non-working days in May 2024 including the second and fourth Saturdays offs.

Banks Will Not Functional On May 1, 2024

May 1 is marked as Labor Day or International Workers Day and in observance of it, banks in several parts of the world are typically closed. This year as well, all national banks in India will be closed. As per the report, Banks are closed in Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Maharashtra, Kerala, Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Assam, Telangana, Goa, and Manipur. According to the Holiday Calendar of Banks determined by the Reserve Bank of India, several banks in Indian cities will be closed including Mumbai, Kochi, Patna, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Panaji, Nagpur, Guwahati, Kolkata, Banglore, Chennai, Imphal, Kolkata, Belapur for Maharashtra Din/May Day. 

The holiday schedule for banks is prepared by the Central Bank of India in unification with state governments, in addition to regional holidays which may differ based on the customs of each state and the wake of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections 2024. Here is the complete list of May Bank Holidays:

  • May 1 (Wednesday): Labour Day 
  • May 5 (Sunday): Sunday
  • May 7 (Tuesday): Banks Of Gujarat, Goa, and Madhya Pradesh Will Be Closed On Account Of The Third Phase Of The Ongoing Lok Sabha Elections 2024
  • May 8 (Wednesday): Banks In West Bengal Will Be Closed
  • May 10 (Friday): National Banks Will Not Open In The Observance of the Akshaya Tritiya Festival 
  • May 11 (Saturday): Banks Will Not Working Due To Second Saturday
  • May 12 (Sunday): Sunday
  • May 13 (Monday): The Banks Operations Of Jammu and Kashmir Will Not Function Due To Lok Sabha Elections
  • May 16 (Thursday): Banks In Sikkim Will Be Closed 
  • May 19: Sunday
  • May 23: Banks Will Remain Close On The Occasion of Buddha Purnima 
  • May 25: All National Banks Will Close Due To Fourth Saturday
  • May 26: Sunday

 

However, online banking services will continue to run smoothly despite these closures. Customers can conveniently conduct their banking activities through the websites of the banks, mobile applications or ATMs for important transactions. Apart from Labour Day, May 1 is also commemorated as Maharashtra Day. This day is observed in honour of the formation of Maharashtra in India and due to that most of the public sectors remain closed.

It is a day to honour the contributions of workers and the labour movement all around the world. On this day, we recognise the dedication and hard work of people who work in numerous fields to make everyone’s lives better. This day is also known as May Day or International Worker’s Day. On May 1 many organisations highlight the current struggles for fair ways and how to improve the working conditions.
