Heavy rainfall impacts Andra Pradesh, at least 19 people were killed due to rain-related incidents in Andhra Pradesh. The  Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places till 8.30 am on September 2. Heavy rainfall in the state has caused flooding and connectivity disruption. 

Telangana floods news: Heavy showers affect the state

Telangana faces similar problems due to heavy showers. An assessment report on the damages caused by heavy rains and floods in the state was released by the Telangana Government. As per this report released on Monday, the total loss is Rs 5438 crore based on initial estimates. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy held an emergency review meeting.  Despite several preventive measures, at least 16 people died due to the rain and flood fury in Telangana. As the railway tracks remained waterlogged along multiple locations on the South-Central Railway network, 99 trains were canceled and 54 were diverted. The Telangana capital Hyderabad administration had ordered all schools to shut down on September 2. Due to the continuous Telangana rain, the railway track between Tadla Pusapalli and Mahabubabad got washed away on September 1st. Repair work is underway to restore the railway track. Amidst the harsh weather conditions, the Telangana government has urged the Centre to declare the floods as a ‘national calamity.’ The Palair reservoir in Telangana’s Khammam district is overflowing due to heavy rains. The water is flowing over the roads making commuting difficult for the locals. 

Andhra Pradesh rain news today: 17,000 evacuated to relief camps

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu stated that 17,000 affected people were evacuated to 107 relief camps. He further said that over 1.1 lakh hectares of agricultural fields and 7,360 hectares of horticultural fields were damaged while Vijayawada and Guntur cities have been completely stranded. According to a Sount6Central Railway official, 21 more trains were canceled and 10 were diverted in the state, seeing the weather conditions so far. Several districts in Andra Pradesh suffer from the heavy downpour. According to the released reports, the most affected districts include- NTR, Guntur, Krishna, Eluru, Palnadu, Bapatla and Prakasam.

Union Government on the Andhra Pradesh floods and Telangana rain

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to chief ministers of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and assured all possible help from the Union government. 26 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed, and 14 more are being dispatched for flood relief and rescue operations in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.  

Vijayawada floods: The areas affected due to the heavy rain

As Vijayawada remains flooded, several residents were reportedly stuck inside residential buildings on September 2nd. Several localities in Vijayawada suffer from the repercussions of the harsh weather conditions. The most affected localities include- Madhura Nagar, Payakapuram, Ajit Singh Nagar, Andhra Prabha colony, LBS Nagar, Nandamuri Nagar, Prasanthi Nagar, Ayodhya Nagar, Ramakrishna Puram, New Rajarajeswari Peta,  Pathapadu, Old Rajarajeswari Peta, Vambay Colony,  Pipula Road, Shanti Nagar, Jakkampudi.
